A make up fly-in is scheduled for Oroville Airport after last spring’s event saw a smaller aircraft turnout due to high winds.

The new event, dubbed Harvest Moon Fly-In, is slated for Saturday, October 3, according to an announcement by organizer Gonzalo Curiel. 

Yesterday at Colusa some pilot peeps were disappointed they missed the big one in May due to the high winds,” Curiel said in the release. “So we decided to invite them up to make up for it!”

Aircraft display day credits will be available at the event, according to the announcement. Titled “claim for exemption from property taxes” by the State of California, display day credits are a type of property tax exemption for “aircraft of historical significance.”

An earlier report by Wingman showed the May 16 Oroville event saw winds of about 15 mph with gusts up to 32 mph.

Curiel previously told Wingman that no damage was reported, but the winds did result in limited aircraft at the event.

“Weather is something you can’t predict, especially months in advance,” Curiel said, noting that planning begins in January. “Quitting isn’t an option in our books nor is it an option to all that came during the day.”

Despite the winds, Curiel said the final attendance was 1,189, and he thanked the vendors, food trucks, and those who were able to land at Oroville, including some aircraft from CALFIRE. 

Several other events across the Sacramento region and foothills were also scheduled for May 16 and saw lower aircraft turnout, according to Wingman.
