Back to school month kicks off with a STEM event for middle school students and includes more fall fly-ins and airport events throughout Northern California. This page will be updated as new information becomes available.

Friday, Sept. 11, Aerospace Museum of California at McClellan (MCC) The museum is hosting a KidWind Challenge with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, according to a SMUD press release. The event is scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The competition is a hands-on activity with over 130 middle school students who will design and build a wind turbine and test it in a wind tunnel.

Saturday, Sept. 12, Auburn Municipal Airport (AUN) Young Eagles flights are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Saturday, Sept. 12, Rio Vista (O88) Rio Vista Municipal Airport is hosting an airport day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature a Lion’s Club pancake breakfast starting at 8 a.m. for $10. Tuesday, Sept. 15 through Sunday, Sept. 20 Lincoln Regional Airport (LHM) The Flying Legends of Victory Tour stops at Lincoln with the B-17G Sentimental Journey. The event is sponsored by the City of Lincoln. Plane tours are $10 per person and rides are between $475 and $850. Seats are limited.

Friday, Sept. 18, Chico Air Museum at Chico Regional Airport (CIC) The Chico Air Museum is hosting a girls in aviation day. STEM booths are available, contact wainortherncali (at) gmail.com for more information.

Saturday, September 19, Experimental Aircraft Association chapter 1714 is hosting an ATC on Tap event at The Draft Shack, 3031 Stanford Ranch Rd. The event will give attendees an opportunity to talk with air traffic controllers, ask questions, and practice sequencing. The event is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Rocklin.

Saturday, September 19, Lincoln Regional/Karl Harder Field (LHM) Lincoln is scheduled to host a vintage display day from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 19, Aerospace Museum of California at McClellan (MCC) The museum is hosting two candlelight concerts. A tribute to The Beatles runs from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. followed by a tribute to Michael Jackson from 8:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Tickets range between $34.50 and $71 per person and are available from Candlelight Concerts.

Sunday, September 20, Starfall Hangar, Cameron Park (O61) Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1726 is hosting a screening of Flying Boat, a documentary about historic seaplanes. The event is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with the movie starting at 7:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a pot-luck dish to share and a lawn chair for seating. Friday, Sept. 25, Mindscape Fermentations Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1704 is launching a new custom drink in honor of Her Royal Flyness, the chapter’s mascot GP-2 Osprey that is in the process of becoming the world’s first bedazzled aircraft. The aircraft will be on display with attendees able to glue some jewels during the event and enjoy the new drink, dubbed “Sparkle Fuel.” Some of the proceeds from the event will go toward a private pilot scholarship, according to the chapter.

Saturday, Sept. 26, Nut Tree Airport (VCB) The Rowland Freedom Center is hosting the 5th annual Planes, Trains, and Automobiles event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is slated to feature food vendors, classic cars, model trains, and aircraft. General admission is $15 per adult and $10 for kids five to 12. Children under 5 are free.

Saturday, Sept. 26, Cameron Park Airpark (O61) The 2026 Props, Cops, and Rodders will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participating organizations include the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and CalFire, according to an event announcement. Admission is free for the whole family. Doug Thomas from The Eagle and Teo Torres of KCRA 3 will be master of ceremonies for the event.
