With May the 4th just around the corner, here is a rundown of aviation related events celebrating all things aviation, some even with a Star Wars twist.

Friday, May 2
Deadline for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Air Squadron scholarship program. Two recipients will receive a $5,000 cash grant for flight training, according to an announcement posted to social media. Applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 35, live in the Sacramento area, demonstrate a passion for aviation and community service, and have an interest in law enforcement, the announcement said. In person interviews are scheduled for Saturday, May 10 with an award ceremony and banquet at Mather Airport scheduled for Wednesday, May 14.

Saturday, May 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Sutter County Airport (O52) will have a display day and cheesesteak lunch. Funds will go toward supporting EAA Chapter 1593’s scholarship program. 

Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Star Wars open cockpit day at the Aerospace Museum of California. The event features open aircraft cockpits, costumed characters and cost-play, STEM activities, and snacks from the Old Crow Cafe. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for youth ages three to 17, and $5 for museum members. Children ages two and under are free. The museum is located at 3200 Freedom Park Dr. in McClellan, California.

Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nut Tree Airport (VCB)
Militaria G.I. Joe and Toy Show at the Rowland Freedom Center. The event features special guests John Morris who voiced Andy in the Toy Story movie along with David Gonzalez who played Ak Rev in Return of the Jedi. Toys, comic books, die cast models, action figures, and collectables will also be available. Admission is $6 for adults, or $4 with military I.D. Children 12 and under are free. The Rowland Freedom Center is located at 300 County Airport Rd. in Vacaville.

Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chico Air Museum (Chico Regional Airport CIC)
The Chico Air Museum 2025 Open House will feature aircraft, and an Air Force mobile theater showing a 3D movie Operation Shadow Strike. The pancake breakfast runs from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and is $8. An evening dance is $5 while admission and parking are free.

Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Placerville Airport (PVF)
Hangtown EAA Chapter 512 is having their monthly pancake breakfast. Proceeds will help Chapter 512’s efforts to repair and maintain their 50 year old hangar, Young Eagles flights, utilities and event costs, merchandise and outreach programs, and scholarships. Adults are $10 and children 12 and under are $5. Fly-in pilots in command are free.

Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Stockton airport (SCK)
The Stockton Airport Open House features static displays, flyovers, and drone demonstrations, according to the website. Parking and admission are free. Event organizers are asking participants to arrive before 2:30 p.m. for admission.

Saturday, May 17 at 5:30 p.m. Yuba County Airport (MVY)
Yuba Sutter Sheriff’s Aero Squadron announced their When Pigs Fly II event at the Yuba County Airport. The event will feature aviation displays, music, raffles, auction items, and food.

Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Oroville Municipal Airport (OVE)
Oroville Airport Day 2025 is slated to have over 100 aircraft fly in for the event, according to an announcement. Billed as Oroville’s “longest running fly-in,” the free event also features classic cars, hot rods, exotics and antiques. Food trucks and arts and crafts vendors will also be on hand during the day. Flights in a vintage warbird will also be available, the announcement said. 

Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lincoln Regional Airport (LHM)
Lincoln will host their monthly historic aircraft display day. A hamburger lunch with coleslaw and a drink is $10 cash or by Venmo. Dan Gryder of the Probable Cause YouTube channel will be the guest speaker.

Saturday, May 31
Bubble Bonanza at the Aerospace Museum of California. The event features hands-on activities and demonstrations related to the science of bubbles. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for youth ages three to 17, and $5 for museum members. Children ages two and under are free. The museum is located at 3200 Freedom Park Dr. McClellan, California.

Saturday, May 24
Girl Scout Workshop at the Aerospace Museum of California. This public event features a balloon-powered car workshop and race for junior Girl Scouts. Start time is at 10 a.m. and the event is slated to wrap up at 12 p.m. Tickets are $35 for participating Girl Scouts and includes admission to the museum and a pass for a future visit. Participants can also earn a corresponding badge and a museum fun patch. Chaperones are $10. The museum is located at 3200 Freedom Park Dr. McClellan, California.

Friday, May 30 through Saturday, May 31
The 61st annual Hayward Air Rally is a VFR cross country challenge of about 200 miles. Fuel management and navigation skills determine the score rather than time to completion, according to a web page for the event. The one-leg flight begins at Hayward Executive Airport (HWD) and ends at McClellan (MCC). Registration is open through Friday, May 23. Participants can attend an awards banquet at the Aerospace Museum of California after the event concludes. Proceeds from the event go toward aviation related scholarships, according to the announcement.
