Residents in the Sacramento area reported the sight and sound of military fighters taking off Tuesday morning.
Area resident Alex Lovato said he saw two F-15s climbing out of Mather Airport and shared two videos to a social media page. Lovato said he lives less than two miles from the airport and the typical T-38 traffic is “nowhere near as loud” as Tuesday’s fighters.
For security reasons, military flights usually block tracking information available to the general public, and a review of flight data by Wingman did not show any military aircraft departing Mather on Tuesday.
In an email to Wingman, Mather based Modern Aviation said they were not able to confirm or comment on the activity.
“As a fixed-base operator, we don’t have access to military flight information and are unable to confirm or comment on the activity reported this morning over Elk Grove. Military operations are typically coordinated independently and often won’t appear on public flight tracking tools,” a spokesperson for Modern Aviation said.
Media Coordinator for the California Capital Airshow, Lindsey Nelson, told Wingman she was not aware of any military activity at the airport since the airshow concluded weeks ago.
A statement from the 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs office at Travis AFB said the base does not have any information on the activity.
A request to Beale AFB public affairs was not immediately returned.
